At Quantum Technology Laboratories GmbH (qtlabs), we are at the forefront of innovation in optical and quantum-based communication technologies. qtlabs develops cutting-edge quantum key distribution (QKD) technology, security proofs and simulations toolkits for space and terrestrial QKD applications. Based in Vienna, our center of excellence drives technological advancements that secure communication around the world. 

The Role

For this position, we are looking for a highly motivated individual with a background in quantum physics or a related field - ideally with experience in quantum communication and QKD. Prior experience in the space sector is a strong plus. You will play a critical role in driving our business development activities, managing proposal applications for national and international funding programs, and building strong networks across the quantum and space industries. Together with the different teams in the company you will develop projects for the development of products and services.

You will work in qtlabs’ Business Development & Sales department, where you will drive project applications, thrive in international project environments, and contribute strategically to the growth of qtlabs.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead project and funding applications at
• • National level, such as FFG or aws
  • European level, such as Horizon Europe or European Defence Fund (EDF)
  • International level: ESA (European Space Agency), Eureka, and commercial bids
• Prepare consortium proposals autonomously and manage partner relationships
• Align business development activities with the overall company strategy and actively contribute to strategy development
• Develop concepts in collaboration with the R&D teams for innovative new projects
• Plan project resources and budgets for successful project implementation and funding applications
• Represent qtlabs at conferences, trade fairs, and workshops
• Build and maintain a professional network and manage key account relationships
• Support sales and marketing efforts to enhance visibility and customer engagement

Required Qualifications

• Background in quantum physics or a related discipline
• Experience in quantum communication / QKD is highly desirable
• Experience in the space sector is a plus
• Proven track record in writing and managing funding proposals and project applications
• Experience working in international consortia and collaborative environments
• Experience with resource planning and budget management for research and innovation projects is a plus
• Ability to work closely with R&D teams on concept development for new initiatives
• High degree of independence and ability to manage multiple tasks and stakeholders effectively
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Fluent in English (German is a plus but not required)

The minimum gross salary for this position is € 3,284.86 per month (based on full-time employment) in accordance with the collective agreement. However, there is a willingness to offer a higher salary depending on experience and qualifications.
